That the term "monument" encompasses far more than portraits of rulers in public places is most likely common knowledge. But what probably few people know: Monuments (in the sense of architectural monuments and archaeological finds) are of great importance when it comes to issues such as identity, history, quality of life, but also the current big issue of sustainability.
The exhibition "Moment mal – Denkmal!" shows how exciting monument preservation can be and how it helps to shape our living environment. What makes a monument a monument? What does home mean to us and what does that have to do with monuments? With questions like these, it presents obstacles, opportunities, and possibilities for historic preservation. But the connections to current social trends and topics are also presented, such as the rediscovery of old construction methods and ecological building materials, energy saving through the renovation of historical buildings or the sensible conversion of already existing, but currently vacant buildings.
