Phytography experiment with plants and flowers by Karel Doing

Phytography workshop

Plant chemistry meets photo art
Making your own works of plant art: This is how the delicate structures of flowers and leaves become visible ...

BIOTOPIA Lab
Naturkundemuseum Bayern

This workshop takes the participants into the world of phytography/ecoprint. They will learn everything about this technique, make their own small works of art – and of course they can take them home afterwards.

The workshop is based on the work of the artist and filmmaker Karel Doing from Oxford. The effects of daylight and plant chemistry are used to make the delicate outlines of plants visible. The inner structures of leaves, flowers and petals also become apparent in subtle shades of colour.

In the introduction, workshop leader Dr Sabine Schultes, a natural scientist with many years of experience as a lecturer, describes the technique and history of phytography as part of experimental photography. She also explains the biological and chemical relationships. Then it is time to get down to work: Under her guidance, participants will create their own phytographic works.

All necessary materials will be provided. Of course, you can bring your own plant material. Registration required!
