"Where have all the flowers gone" is a song that highlights the seemingly eternal recurrence of wars, as the inescapable nature of man, if you will. We do not learn from our mistakes, but are condemned to repeat them in an eternal cycle. This fate is also shared by Peer Gynt, who again and again fails in his expectations of reality.
But the question is, how innocent can one remain in the presence of one's own failings? Where is the dividing line between a naïve dreamer and an opportunistic chatterbox? In recent years it seems we are all in a similar situation. There is no more respite between climate change, pandemic and Ukraine war. We have to constantly relate to it and either close our eyes to reality or radically change our lives.
The flower of life is another symbol that addresses this eternal cycle of the world, circles that cross, patterns that recur. How can we break this vicious circle? How can one still save one's soul? Is there a right life in a wrong one? The audience travels with the protagonists through the stages of a life and thus sees the key moments of a coming-of-age story that never ends.
The youth club has been a regular part of the Hofspielhaus since 2016. This free of charge and freely accessible offer for teenagers and young adults is a creative and social space. People meet once a week, discuss current topics, rehearse and write. At the end of the (theatre) year a play is performed on stage.
