Munich, city center, new development area: wild bees, butterflies and hoverflies cavort on blossoms, grasshoppers chirp in the grass, and lizards sun themselves on logs next to them. In September 2015, committed residents transformed two lawns in Arnulfpark into species-rich flowering areas. The goal was to ecologically enhance a total of around 200 square meters to provide forage plants and habitats for bees, bumblebees, day and night butterflies, flies, beetles and birds. Different methods were used on the two areas: In one area, the lawn was removed and a flowering area was completely replanted; in the other, the species in the existing greenery were enriched with perennials and bulbous plants.
The participants will learn more about the planting and maintenance concept as well as the development of these near-natural areas. They will also hear about the experiences, the successes and failures, and the special challenges in public spaces.
