The preparations for Rebecca Louise Law's floral art installation are already in full swing: thousands of flowers were delivered to the Kunsthalle München, then the "Wiring" began, the tying of the flowers on wafer-thin wires into individual flower bunches.
In order to have enough space for this, a disused swimming pool in Munich was specially hijacked.
In addition to collecting the flowers, interested citizens could also participate in the preparation of the artwork: Large quantities of flowers had to be sorted, prepared and bound. With the artist, everything will then finally be put together in January 2023. With this participatory community project, the Kunsthalle München brought people together in an extraordinary way.
The British artist needs no less than 200,000 dried flowers for her expansive sculpture Calyx (Calyx of Flowers). For Rebecca Louise Law, the focus of her artistic work is the conscious and sustainable use of natural resources and the networking of people from the most diverse contexts. The installation can be admired in the exhibition "Flowers Forever" from 3.2.2023.
