As a compensatory measure, a dry habitat now covering more than eight hectares was created north of the Angerlohe in the late 1980s as part of the expansion of the marshalling yard site. Today, the protected biotope areas found there are an important part of the fauna-flora habitat area "Allacher Forst und Angerlohe". They are home to numerous rare plants and animals, such as the fringed gentian, the false reindeer lichen, the adonis blue butterfly or the green toad.
The tour leads through rough grasslands, orchards and to ephemeral (temporarily water-bearing) small water bodies. The participants will learn more about the flora and fauna to be found. They get informed about ecological relationships, the history of origin, the production measures and about the current care for the preservation of this valuable habitat.
