In the research project "blühende Bänder" (flowering strips) of the Chair of Renaturation Ecology of the TUM, 80 flowering strips were planted with native wildflower seeds. Green City e.V. accompanied the project and involved citizens as "Citizen Science" and "Blühpat:innen" (flowering patrons).

Since 2023, some of the areas continue to be looked after by "Blühpat:innen", who take care of the regular maintenance of their areas, carry out nature observations and take over the mowing twice a year.

The first mowing will be carried out after the first flowering in June, so that annual flowers can seed. The date for the second mowing is in September. This type of management is referred to as extensive and double mowing. This creates a wide food supply for native insects.

Mowing is done with a hand sickle or hand scythe. A step-by-step instruction awaits the participants in this workshop and afterwards they can carry out the mowing on their own area.
