Order is the prerequisite for recognizing commonalities and understanding connections. This need is probably also the reason why people at all times and all over the world have created systems of order for plants. One of these systems was designed by the Swedish naturalist Carl von Linné. In his monumental work "Species Plantarum", published in 1753, he arranged all plant species known to him on 1200 pages, assigning them a two-part name consisting of genus and species.

Doctor of biology Thassilo Franke obtained a postgraduate diploma in 2005 in the subject of Nature Film and Science Communication. His graduation film won the coveted BBC Newcomer Award. From 2008 to 2014, he worked as a scriptwriter, scientific advisor and researcher at Nautilusfilm GmbH. Since December 2016 he has been research assistant at the Bavarian Museum of Natural History, and since the end of 2021 he has represented the museum at the Munich Science Communication Lab (MSCL).

This event is part of the series "Graduate Conference: Flower Power – Blossoms and Petals between Beauty, Classification, and Dominance".
