The laminated acetate plates are Sashee Schuster’s basis for her unique glasses. In the joint workshop, these plates are made with dried natural materials. At the same time, you can see how the finished plates are handcrafted into glasses or pendants for earrings or necklaces.

The designer preserves the fragile beauty of nature by laminating collected blossoms, seeds or bird feathers with the raw material acetate:

"The beauty of nature is fleeting, that is part of the life cycle. In acetate, however, it does not fade. When I laminate seeds, this plant is simultaneously preserved for the future. And then when, thousands of years from now, mankind finds my glasses, the plants that may already be extinct can be brought back to life." (Sashee Schuster)

FUNK Optik feat. Sashee Schuster

FUNK in Kinsau, Bavaria, is one of the last eyewear manufacturers in Germany. Here, the Dieter Funk and Sashee Schuster collections are handmade under sustainable premises. In her own store in Schwabing, Sashee demonstrates her self-developed laminating technique in which blossoms, spices and seeds are preserved in acetate to then become spectacles during a hands-on workshop.
