The English Garden looks back on a history of almost 235 years. Once conceived as a military installation and people's park, today it is one of the largest inner-city recreational areas and ecosystems in the world. The beer garden at the Chinese Tower, the Monopteros and the surfers at the Eisbach are among the most visited places in the English Garden. Extensive meadows, water areas and the undergrowth provide shelter for many plant species and animals, some of which are endangered.
The focus of this guided tour is on the history of the creation of the English Garden and its importance within the then still young genre of the landscape garden. The people involved in its creation laid the foundation for its later use as a public park. Even today, the flora, fauna and people benefit from the foresight of the planners.
